#1 Wind Waves by Laura Lansford 1. Wind Waves-The foreground is working in this image. However, the judges wanted to change the camera angle to try to eliminate the left side walk/stairs/shower. The other major issue was the bland sky and dull ocean. Try an early morning or after sunset venue to help with an overcast day. 9+9+10=28 pts

#2 Wave by Shannon Ryan This has got a similar problem to image #1. Though not appearing to be overcast, the time of day has made for a dull water (and wave) and a gray unattractive sky. It is a reasonably sharp image, needing color from sunrise/sunset skies. 8+9+10=27 pts
#3 Up and Away by Kathy Winiger The Color, exposure and nice diagonal are all working well in this image. The judges wanted a little tighter crop to get rid of some dead areas, and the tree tops as much as possible. 11+12+13=36 pts
#4 Rigeletto by Marilyn Frenkel An interesting composition of a tough image to capture. Considering the disadvantages, this is not too bad of a shot. The colors help the interest. However, the focus seemed a little soft, and the lighting, a little to contrasty. The judges also wanted more light on the face. 9+11+11=31 pts

#5 Praying at the Western Wall by Lindsey Lobree This image has a strong composition and interest with good focus and a pretty good balance of light and exposure considering the subject matter. Some thought the fellows were a bit centered, some thought the image a little unbalanced with little on the left. 11+12+13=36 pts
#6 Montreal Night by Laura Lansford The judges liked this image as a silhouette as a composition. They all had a problem with the right spire tilting in, to various degrees. 9+11+11=31 pts
#7 Hawk by Ken Barrett This is a nice portrait with good feather texture, subject position, and sharp focus on the eye. There was a slight problem with the top and back of the head being a little soft in the focus arena. 13+13+14=40 pts
#8 Frank and Erin by Glenn Derosa A nice original composition with good positioning of the faces and hands. The image being Black & White was a plus. Some thought the image was a little soft in the focus department, and yet it "felt" hard. 11+11+12=34 pts

#9 Emmm, Emmm Good by Ken Barrett Another good animal portrait that's a little out of the norm. Nicely sharp tongue adds interest to the image. The background on the left, and the sky above the tiger both distract to some extent. 11+12+13=36 pts
#10 Cabin by Shannon Ryan The composition is done well here, with a pleasing road curve carrying us thru the image. The flat light and bland sky hurt the image as do the cars in the background. However, the mailbox garnered the most negative comments. 10+10+11=31 pts
#11 Blue Feather by Joe Colavita The nice lines and blue color let this work as an abstract. It is perhaps a little soft on the right, with a need a have a focal point. 10+12+12=34 pts
#12 Bedoin Girl by Lindsey Lobree This is OK as an "in the environment" portrait. The impact seemed a bit weak. Some also did not like the dark face and the very bright background. 10+11+11=32 pts

#13 Away We Go by Kathy Winiger Nice impact, colors, focus, exposure, and separation of subjects. Some wanted even more separation, and some wanted a little less sky. 11+13+14=38 pts
#14 Almost Flying by Joe Colavita This shows pretty good timing in capturing one tough shot. However, the focus seemed a little soft, and all the ropes and lines were a bit distracting. Some wanted to see more of the girl's face and expression. 8+10+11=29 pts
#15 Elizabeth by Jim McClanaham Not a bad pose. A nice strong image with sharp focus. Some liked how the blouse melted into the background with the patterns of color hinting at the blouse. The biggest drawback was the harsh lighting which gave hot spots to the face/neck/chest of the model. 10+10+11=31 pts
#16 Grandfather by Jim McClanaham An interesting self portrait. The judges felt the left side lines were a distraction. Some felt there's too much light on the subject's left side, and some felt the background appeared a little "noisy". 10+10+11=31 pts

#17 Young at Heart by Marilyn Frenkel this image had the most disagreement. Some liked the clown on left, but not the girl on right. Some liked the opposite. Most felt the depth of field was too shallow, and they didn't like the clown's face being cut off-they wanted to see both faces. 11+11+11=33 pts
