CCC March Competition

#1 Chimney Rock
by Jim McClanahan
Nice Perspective but impact is low because of lots of ‘dead’ areas around the frame, especially the sky.
10+10+11=31 pts

#2 Orchid
by Maris Engle
Good Focus, color, exposure, and perspective all work well. Perhaps you could lose some more of the branch in the background.
13+13+13=39 pts

#3 Lines Gone Wild
by Ron Gibbs
Nice exposure and night shot with lots of interesting lines/angles. Perhaps a twilight sky might be more interesting, and crop off top just above right side horizontal lines.
12+12+12=36 pts

#4 Egret in Falling Sunlight
by Ken Barrett
Good exposure, light/backlight, impact. Too much black to the left of bird, would work better as a vertical.
13+13+14=40 pts

#5 Tenn
by JP Karner
One of the better reenactment images. B&W medium helpsSmoke isolating the main subjects a plus. A bit tight on the left, and could crop a little off the right.
12+12+13=37 pts

#6 All Aboard
by Ralph Besnoy
Nice exposure, light, focus, perspective on the main subject. Sky and building in background a bit washed out.
10+11+12=33 pts

#7 Mallard Beauty
by Laura Lansford
Nice shot with reasonable background and perspective. Some thought the impact was weak. The focus seemed soft on head.
10+12+13=35 pts

#8 Dangerous Water
by Ken Barrett
Nice action shot. some were distracted by the patch of grass at the top. All felt the centering of the subject hurt to some extent.
11+11+13=35 pts

#9 Smokey Mountains
by JP Karner
Composition works well as does the exposure. Dull lighting hurts a little, there are hot spots in the water.
11+12+12=35 pts

#10 Seeking
by Marilyn Frenkel
Extremely creative image with lots of impact and strong color. Cropping off the top blackness would really make this pop.
11+13+13=37 pts

#11 All Employees Must Wash Their Hands
by Ralph Besnoy
Reasonable image of a disgusting subject. Freezing the water drips a plus, good photojournalist shot.
10+11+12=33 pts

#12 Many Fishes
by Laura Lansford
Interesting lighting of a technically difficult subject. But more needs to be in focus, as well as a focal point.
10+10+12=32 pts

#13 Watering Cans
by Joe Colavita
Nice exposure. Lacks impact. Could’ve been a study in texture if more was on the left. Perhaps needed more contrast.
10+11+12=33 pts

#14 Quintet
by Marilyn Frenkel
Nice background, along with composition and lighting. Singers’ torsos get lost in black area of back ground. Focus seemed a little fuzzy.
12+12+12=36 pts

#15 Illumination
by Maris Engle
Interesting colors. Glass being cut off was a little distracting. It also seemed a little dark.
10+11+13=34 pts

#16 Vivisecting the Sky
by Ron Gibbs
Nice color and composition and image format (the narrow horizontal). Impact a little weak. Perhaps needing more dramatic lighting/angle(s).
11+12+12=35 pts

#17 Off Their Rockers
by Joe Colavita
Nice exposure and focus. Impact is low. Bag/paper around bucket distracts. Some also wanted the left side cropped.
10+11+11=32 pts

#18 Bright Eyes
by Jim McClanahan
Nice close image of a captivating smile. Exposure seemed a bit harsh in spots, and the focus seemed off a tiny bit.
10+11+12=33 pts

#19 Farmhouse Sunrise
by Lindsey Lobree
Nice pastels, nice scene—except for those distracting power lines.
12+12+13=37 pts

#20 Racing to Learn
by Lindsey Lobree
Reasonable race shot. Foreground railing is a distraction as well as the white sheet or blob in background or all the background for that matter.
11+11+12=34 pts
