News

Hi everyone -

The club is going strong and we have a lot of new members! We’ve had several successful field trips and some good competitions. As we move into 2012, we have a great lineup of guest speakers to keep the momentum going.

I’d like to thank the board for all their hard work. Ken Barrett has stepped down from the board. Thanks Ken, for all your help and leadership. Michael Way and Dale Brown were added to the board this fall and have been great additions. We’ve gotten a lot accomplished in just a few months since they came aboard. We welcome your comments - the board would love to hear from anyone who has any ideas or suggestions.

I would also like to thank Elle Kriser. Elle has taken over as our Facebook administrator and is doing a wonderful job managing that page and posting interesting tips and information about club meetings and activities. If you are Facebook user, I encourage you to join our page and post articles, pictures and links too!

In 2012, we’re going to continue to focus on education and critiques. Whether you’re a beginner or advanced, there is always something to learn. Hearing from fellow photographers is a great way to learn.

We have a couple more competitions this year, in February and April, before closing out the year-end competitions with our annual banquet. Members can compete both digitally and with prints. Images are scored and critiques will be provided. Qualifying images will be entered into the year-end competition.

As a member club in the Photographic Society of America (PSA), Charlotte Camera Club participates in four divisions: Nature, Photojournalism, Color Image and Creative. Each division holds three to four competitions during the photo year. Our members have the opportunity to compete in those contests with other clubs from around the country and internationally. Our club participation is up this year. I’m glad to see more folks entering images for PSA.

During the months that we don’t hold competitions, we have "Shoot and Share" nights. Members can bring in any images to discuss with the group. You can bring in a personal project or new techniques you’re trying, get help or comments from the group, show off something cool - anything goes.

The second meeting of each month is reserved for guest speakers, education and activities. If you have an idea for a topic or have something to share, please let me or someone on the board know. We have some guest speakers lined up to get us rolling at the beginning of the year and we’ll introduce another Scavenger Hunt and of course we’ll have some more great field trips and we’ll plan a summer tabletop workshop.

Our membership includes all levels of expertise and we welcome anyone who wants to share their interest and passion for photography.

So, if you want to learn and have some fun along the way, get that camera, get snapping and come to a meeting and see what we’re all about.

Happy shooting and I hope to see you soon!
