CCC October Competition

#1 Another Fallen Officer
by Rusty Rhodes
The Judges liked the visual impact of this image. However, They did feel the horizon was too centered, and they were bothered to some extent from the out of focus foreground flags.
10+10+12=32 pts

#2 Below Reality
by Ron Gibbs
This image concerns an interesting subject matter not usually seen. The right side is a distraction. The impact is also hurt by doubt as to the subject of the image.
9+10+11=30 pts

#3 Billy Graham Library
by Jim McClanaham
The walkway provides a nice leading line taking us into the pastoral image. The image was hurt by the bland white sky, and the out of focus people.
10+10+11=31 pts

#4 Fabric of a City
by Marquis Harrison
This image showed nice texture and the green colored glass added some interest. However, the image lacked impact, and most were bothered by the bright rock, and it being cropped.
9+10+11=30 pts

#5 Festival Night
by Rusty Rhodes
Nice color with good motion versus static motion contrast. It is dynamic and colorful with a lot to look at. Perhaps twilight instead of night sky might add a little.
11+12+12=35 pts

#6 Hanging Out
by Ron Gibbs
The judges liked the amusing story this image told. They liked the blurred background, and nice composition. There was a little problem with the overall washed out color, and some felt it was a little cluttered.
12+12+13=37 pts

#7 House on Gold Hill Rd.
by Kathy Winiger
The judges thought this image concerned good subject matter and a nice overall image. Some thought it was place well, some thought it a bit close to the edge. Some thought it needed a more dynamic grey scale range, some thought the lower right was a bit overexposed.
10+10+13=33 pts

#8 Jekyll Sunrise
by Maris Engle
This image has great color, high impact and a creative positioning of the sun. The only drawback might be a bit too much black in the lower right.
12+12+13=37 pts

#9 Leaf on Wood
by Maris Engle
The color, composition, and focus are all working extremely well in this image. The texture also helps to make this image have good impact.
12+13+13=38.

#10 Linville Caverns
by Ken Barrett
This image has overall nice focus and color making it a somewhat abstract image. Some thought the top left was a bit soft, and some thought the impact was a bit low.
10+10+11=31 pts

#11 Low Tide
by Jim Hasapis
This image has good composition with strong color, good detail, and interesting texture on the beach.
12+13+14=39 pts

#12 Monarch Butterfly
by Jim Hasapis
The color, focus, blurred background are all working bery well in this image. The excellent composition is helped by the curve of the grass blade, and makes for solid impact.
12+14+14=40 pts

#13 Nice Guy
by Jim McClanaham
This image has good impact and expression of the model. Some thought the exposure was good, some thought the lighting was a bit harsh, but all thought the image was hurt by too tight the framing of the subject.
9+10+10=29 pts

#14 Resurrection Fern
by Kathy Winiger
The composition, soft color and texture are all nice in this image as is the even lighting. It just seemed to lack impact, perhaps a different angle, and/or a way to make it stand out from the background.
10+10+12=32 pts

#15 Snow Crunch
by Shannon Ryan
The snow is exposed nicely, and this image has reasonable composition. The judges felt the impact was a bit low. The overall image seemed a bit dark, it needed more depth of field, and it lacks a center of interest.
9+10+11=30 pts

#16 Guitar Player
by Marilyn Fienkel
This is a nice humorous image. However, the judges wanted to see more of the face, and they felt there was too much wasted space, that the photographer could fix by moving in or cropping out--especially along the top and right side.
10+10+11=31 pts

#17 Up Above
by Shannon Ryan
This is a creative B&W image with lots of diagonals. However, the judges felt is was a bit soft and a little busy and the impact was low.
9+10+11=30pts

#18 Fire in the Sky
by Ken Barrett
This image has great impact with no wasted space, good interest and composition. Perhaps the only draw back was it being a little dark in the foreground.
12+14+14=40 pts

#19 Waiting
by Marilyn Fienkel
This is a nice composition that creates a good mood. Some wanted to crop off the right and top sides to concentrate on the central subject--the face and expression of the actor.
