CCC September Competition

#1 Horses
by Glenn Derosa
Good Pose and Composition with reasonable impact. A tight crop, perhaps too tight. Foreground horse is a little soft and a little dark. The light seems flat. There is a bright spot in the mane and the eyes are a bit hard to see.

#2 Wild Thing
by Ken Barrett
Good impact. An unusual and creative image with fairly sharp focus, good background and exposure. Some might prefer a straight on view in stead of the semi profile view.
11+12+14=37 pts

#3 Waterfall Girl
by Glenn Dorsa
Good Impact and composition. A Powerful image. The pink suit adds some color to the image. Focus on girl seems a little soft, and the light a tad bit harsh.

#4 Turtles Reflecting
by Len Meltzer
Nice subject matter. Some liked the composition, some thought it a little centered. Impact was hurt by the dull color, a couple of hot spots, and the contrasty nature of the image.
9+10+10=29 pts

#5 Tulip
by Maris Engle
A Good solid close up, with good focus, composition, and exposure. Some thought the black wedge inbetween the petals on the right distracts a little

#6 Southern California Coast
by Lorraine Shannon
A nice beach scene image with good composition. The car and house distract a little. Some would prefer the time being closer to sunrise/set to help with the washed out sky. The added color might add more interest to the sky and water as well.
10+12+12=34 pts

#7 Motion by Two
by Marilyn Frenkel
A good creative image with lots of motion and impact. The scene appears tilted a tad. The messy floor is a minor distraction. The main concern is the need for a tighter crop, and/or moving in.
10+11+12=33 pts

#8 Michael English
by Rusty Rhodes
Nice tight crop captures the moment well. The good composition eliminates distractions. The focus on the face may be a tad soft, and the fingers are a little hot.
10+11+11=32 pts

#9 Kayaks
by Maris Engle
Nice repeat shapes with good color saturation. The lone blue kayak adds some interest. The right side cable distracts. The impact is low. Perhaps fewer kayaks would help. Just work the scene more.
10+10+10=30 pts

#10 Emily Swinging High
byLen Meltzer
This had the widest results from the judges. Some thought the image had high impact with the child so close to the edge adding to the tension. Some had problems with the lighting being harsh, the child's face being underexposed, and the distracting whiter cloud.
9+11+12=32 pts

#11 Dude
by Lindsey Lobree
The exposure and focus are OK in this image. Most believed the story was the dude on the right, with everything else distracting.
8+9+10=27 pts

#12 Dragon Wagon
by Joe Colavita
This has good color and great potential. As is it feels a little busy. Perhaps recomposing or cropping would help. Also some movement would add interest. If shot in the early evening the lights would be on and that would be a good thing.

#13 Cowpoke Hung Up in his Rigging
by Lindsey Lobree
Pretty reasonable action shot. The guy running to help keeps the viewer in the frame. The Focus seems a little soft. And in most of these kind of shots, the background is a mild distraction.
11+12+13=36 pts

#14 Construction Walkway
by Joe Colavita
Good leading lines. Perhaps subject in foreground would help. The image appears tilted and the people a background are soft and blurred. It also is a tad bit noisy.
7+8+10=25 pts

#15 Back Bone
by Marilyn Frenkel
Red color is nice and it pops. The composition and reflection is nice though some black areas could be lost on each side. The focus seems soft and the story unknown.
8+9+12=29 pts

#16 Fiftyseven
by Rusty Rhodes
This has nice perspective with good strong colors and angles. The left side seems a bit soft and the chrome on the top appears hot.
12+12+12=36 pts

#17 Wolf 1
by Ken Barrett
A good solid portrait helped with a good tight crop. Lots of detail in the fur and eyes show good focus. Some thought nose lacked detail, the light background was distracting, or the color was off a touch with a blue nose and extra pink tongue.
12+13+14=39 pts

#18 Reflections of Chicago
by Lorraine Shannon
A nice creative image that had interest due to the right side distortion up against the left side. The bland dull color hurt impact.
